Dr Ben Parkinson is an Australian trained orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in Hip and Knee surgery.

Dr Parkinson spent his early childhood on a remote cattle station in Northwestern Queensland and then later moved to Longreach in Western Queensland. He went on to study medicine and graduated from James Cook University, Townsville in 2005. He subsequently completed his specialist orthopaedic training with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2012.

Dr Parkinson has undertaken further sub-specialist fellowship training in the UK and Switzerland to advance his skills in treating hip and knee conditions. His interests include knee preservation procedures to delay or prevent the need for knee replacement via techniques to repair and transplant damaged cartilage and menisci in the knee. Dr Parkinson has also gained expertise in the management of knee ligament injuries, lower limb osteotomy for deformity correction, hip and knee replacement, and pelvic trauma surgery. 

Dr Parkinson holds a public appointment at Cairns Hospital and is an associate senior lecturer with James Cook University. He enjoys contributing to the training of medical students, junior doctors and orthopaedic trainees in the region. Dr Parkinson has a keen interest in clinical research to improve the knowledge and understanding of hip and knee conditions. He has published numerous research papers on this work and regularly presents at national and international conferences.

Outside of work, Dr Parkinson enjoys mountain biking and spending time with his young family.
