Dr. Michel Genon is a respected Australian orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip, knee, and shoulder surgeries.

Originally from Belgium and raised along the coast of Victoria, Dr. Genon completed his orthopaedic training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association’s NSW North Side Training Program. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2015.

Dr. Genon relocated to Cairns and began his role at the public hospital in August 2023. In May 2025, he joined the Cairns Orthopaedic Clinic.

He holds both public and private appointments at Cairns Hospital Hinterland Health Services and Cairns Private Hospital, where he provides a wide range of orthopaedic services, including robotic-assisted total hip, total knee, and partial knee replacements, arthroscopic knee and shoulder procedures, and complex trauma care.

Before moving to Cairns, Dr. Genon co-founded The Specialist Orthopaedic Centre in Grafton, New South Wales. During his time there, he played a key role in developing a day-stay joint replacement protocol at Grafton Base Hospital. In collaboration with fellow surgeon Dr. Sam Martin and allied health professionals, this innovative program allowed selected patients to undergo total hip and knee replacements with same-day discharge. The protocol focused on advanced surgical and anaesthetic techniques, enhanced postoperative pain management, and coordinated rehabilitation, leading to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Dr. Genon has a particular focus on robotic-assisted joint replacement, aiming to improve patient outcomes through meticulous pre-operative planning and precise surgical execution. Since 2019, he has been performing robotic knee replacements at Gold Coast Private Hospital and now also utilises the technology for total hip, partial knee, and total knee replacements.

A strong advocate for advancing orthopaedic care, Dr. Genon is deeply involved in research and innovation. He has led the development of clinical outcome tracking systems and continues to integrate evidence-based approaches into his practice.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Genon enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children. He is also a passionate Ironman triathlete, having competed in both Ironman Australia and Ironman Cairns. His dedication to endurance sports mirrors the discipline and commitment he applies in his medical career.

Dr. Genon is committed to providing outstanding orthopaedic care to the residents of Far North Queensland.
